Welcome to one of Asia’s most compelling cities. Ho Chi Minh City offers an endless exploration and one day won’t be enough to cover everything about this city!
This was our third destination for our Indochina tour and we only have one day to explore the place. I swear! It wasn’t enough and will surely plan out for a Vietnam tour again soon. Nevertheless, we still had so much fun and the adventure was unforgettable indeed!
From noodle breakfasts to art tours and tunnel visits, here’s how we make the most of one day in former Saigon.
HOW TO GET HERE FROM PHNOM PEHN?
We took a bus from Phnom Pehn to Ho Chi Minh, booked our tickets online at Mekong Express Limousine Bus. It’s the safest, the most reliable, cheap, and offers a high speed wifi connection based on reviews. The travel time is around 6-7 hours. It was a comfortable ride.
WHERE TO STAY?
Ho Chi Minh City is fitted with a wide array of accommodation options of varying price range and styles.
We stayed in 3 La Hostel located at 32A Cao Ba Nha, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. This was booked via booking.com for only PHP299 per bed. The bed fits two persons so we requested if we could just share beds to save and luckily the owner agreed so we only paid PHP 150/head.
The hostel also has a restaurant which offers super cheap breakfast for only PHP 50. It’s best for backpackers like us.
HOW TO ROAM AROUND THE CITY?
For first timers, the easiest way to roam around the city is via Taxi. Just be prepared with a written address or business cards or pictures of each spots that you’ll be visiting since most Vietnamese are not that good in English. And the street signs are mostly written in Thai language. The flagfall is around 12,000d for the first kilometre. Uber and Grab smartphone app are also popular in the city which provides similar booking and mapping capability for cars.
PLACES TO VISIT?
- Cu Chi Tunnel
2. Artworks Factory made of eggshells – this is where you could also buy souvenirs.
3. War Remnants Museum

WHERE TO EAT?
There’s a lot of restaurants everywhere offering varieties of Vietnamese cuisine especially their known noodle soups. But of most of the backpackers and tourists eat in the Pub Street where street foods and exotic foods like scorpions are up for grab.
WHERE BUY SOUVENIRS?
- Saigon Central
2. Ben Thanh Night Market – this is where we buy North Face bags and souvenirs. Open from 8AM-5PM only , find shop 947 for authentic and cheap bags.
HOW MUCH DID WE SPEND PER HEAD HERE?
